Answer: Almost every day. Some use conventional ways to advertise\ntheir brands and some take a leap of faith and go over the top to be there.\nRarely, the battle gets ugly, but most of the time, the competition is a\nhealthy one, even if the brand uses \u201cAmbush Marketing\u201d the right way. Speaking\nof yet another debatable topic, Ambush Marketing is a forbidden fruit that many\nbrands try to avoid biting. But, if you look at successful brands, they use\nthis fruit in their salads for success. Here\u2019s the newest #DotsFired and here\u2019s\nwhat we have to say about it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Our Thoughts:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>History has it that Ambush Marketing grabs more eyeballs.\nTake the banter between Wendy\u2019s, Burger King &amp; McDonald\u2019s or the ugly fight\nbetween Pepsi &amp; Coke, Ambush Marketing has surely helped the brand gain\nmore engagement. The very nature of Ambush Marketing is to hijack another\u2019s\nbrand campaign and raise awareness about their brand. The most recent event was\nwhen Apple launched its brand new phone and made the charger chargeable (pun,\nintended). Samsung and OnePlus were quick to take a dig at them mentioning that\ntheir chargers were FREE IN THE BOX.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There are many other examples that made headlines in the\npast when Coke was announced the official sponsor for the 1996 Cricket World\nCup, Pepsi came up with a campaign \u2013 Nothing Official About It! The latter\ncaptured the consumer\u2019s minds more than the actual sponsor of the game. In this\ncase, PepsiCo didn\u2019t hijack Coke\u2019s brand campaign, but it hijacked the entire\ncricketing event. If you look at it from the brand\u2019s perspective, the purpose\nof the campaign was solved right there.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Though many brands consider Ambush Marketing as a\nquestionable and unethical practice to gain undue advantage,&nbsp;here\u2019s the\nthing \u2013 we have the Advertising Standards Council of India (ASCI). It is a\nself-regulatory advertising body in India for over 30 years.
