IPL THROWBACK: THE BEST ADS OF ALL TIME

For the past 17 years, the Indian Premier League (IPL) has  kept the fans glued to their screens with its thrilling cricketing action. However,  it’s not just the matches that  have captured their hearts. Over the years, IPL has become synonymous with some iconic advertisements that have left a lasting impression on viewers with power-packed, bold colours, desi visuals and catchy theme songs.

Let’s take a trip down memory lane and revisit the best IPL ads of all time.

  1. Manoranjan Ka Baap:

Before it became “India ka Tyohaar”,  IPL was “Manoranjan ka baap!” The DLF-sponsored inaugural edition of the Indian Premier League was announced with an unforgettable advertisement campaign that promised unparalleled entertainment to cricket enthusiasts. With witty dialogues, infectious tune, humour and an excellent take on the Hindi word for entertainment  “Manoranjan Ka Baap” became a household phrase during IPL seasons.

  1. Dil Jumping Jhapak

What’s your reaction when your fav team wins a thriller? You jump out with glee, and dance like nobody’s watching. This exact essence was captured in the “Dil Jumping Jhapak” ads. Set to a catchy hook the ads depicted the joy and excitement that IPL brings to millions of fans across the country. This campaign, featuring Farah Khan, commentators, experts and laymen, taught the nation how to dance to a rhythm set by the cheers when the cricket ball gets smacked for a 6 or a 4 or crashes into the stumps to claim a wicket!

With its vibrant choreography and energetic vibe, “Dil Jumping Jhapak” became an anthem for IPL enthusiasts and remains etched in the memories of viewers.

  1. The IPL Carnival 

IPL is a grand spectacle that brought together cricket, music, and entertainment on a larger-than-life scale. And the IPL Carnival ad reflected just the same. With its star-studded lineup of celebrities and athletes, the ad captured the essence of IPL as not just a sporting event, but a cultural phenomenon. The ad campaign depicted how every game is a rollercoaster with its twists and turns, and anxious, exhilarating moments. The film is spectacular, entertaining, thrilling, noisy, and colourful – everything that India is, its people are, and its favourite sport.

With rides named after players, massive sets, precision miniatures and out-of-the-world visual effects, this extravagant ad became one that’s etched in every IPL fan’s memories forever.  

  1.  IPL Pistah-Fun Fans Fantastic 

IPL’s Pistah ad campaign was a visual treat for cricket fans, with its captivating narrative that resonated with fans across India and beyond. This ad exemplified the excitement and energy every IPL brings, while showcasing the league as an event which brings people together, fostering a sense of unity and pride.

The ad campaign captured the competitive spirit of the tournament, the thrill of the matches, and the camaraderie among players and fans in all its glory. The special appeal lies in its ability to create a sense of belonging among viewers, and making them feel part of something larger – India’s richest sporting tournament.

These iconic ads have played a significant role in enhancing the allure of the IPL and bringing fans closer to the action. The entertainment, exuberance and grandeur of IPL is perfectly captured in these advertisements, which have left an indelible mark and made the IPL experience truly unforgettable.
