Social Media Trends to look out for in 2023 – Part 2

by 3dots-blog December 15, 2022

Hope you have read the earlier article about the trends you need to look out for in 2023. If not, reading this article would seem like a jump in the multiverse where you are clueless about where and whence the new characters came from. Just to give you all a quick recap, in the recent article, we spoke about trends in social media such as micro-influencers would be in great demand, people will continue to talk about climate change and sustainability in their campaigns, regardless of the end result. We also spoke about how there will be multiple sensory touchpoints that would be curating your digital experiences and lastly, we elaborated on brands going hyperlocal because speaking to customers in their language makes more sense than just translating ad campaigns. Well, this article would take you further on various other trends that you should be watching out for.

Women will still be in the focus!

Brands love to be in the market. One wrong move and the brand is doomed forever. Women, however, are still the chartbusters in every advertising campaign. Every brand idea is centered on them in an inclusive manner. The recent events in Iran where women took off their hijab during a protest stirred a massive uproar in the media. Though it seemed like a massive opportunity for brands to hook on to the idea of situational relevance, the ideas still hover in the favour of the feminine side.

Another recent ad by Vim where the packaging was completely changed to black mentioned that the product was exclusively for men, but in the consequent ad, the brand claimed it was a joke and the idea was for men to share the household chores, regardless of gender. Though they had the idea in place, the afterthought fell too flat.

Content consumption won’t stop or slow down!

From the moment Jio announced free internet during their launch, consumers are addicted to data consumption and today, this won’t stop or slow down. The service providers are back to their earlier tariffs making hay while the sun shines and social media platforms are the major ones where data is consumed in huge numbers. Comparatively, OTT platforms rule the chart with new players adding on a frequent basis. Content creation is on the rise. It has given a massive boost to the entertainment industry opening a gateway for an enormous talent pool.

However, the game is based on viewership and the ever-changing trends in social media are a major catalyst. This has led to taking a cautious approach toward consumer engagement, geo-targeted marketing and brand-focused content creation.

Social commerce will gain prominence!

Who knew an online bookstore like Amazon would become a global phenomenon? Today, it has become synonymous with online shopping across the world. Following this successful streak, social media too has taken the commercial route.

Instagram & Facebook ads have transformed into commercial platforms for brands to endorse their products and services, especially for local players who do it to establish their brand primarily and eventually sell. boAt, which is now the 5th largest wearable brand, began its journey as a cable manufacturer and seller.

A lot of AR/VR will come into play!

The future holds futuristic ideas. And the brands are adapting the Augmented Reality (AR) / Virtual Reality way. The recent ad for FIFA World Cup created by Adidas used Artificial Intelligence (AI) to reiterate their ethos – Impossible is nothing by portraying Lionel Messi playing football with his younger self.

This tool has become a new favourite for brands in the recent past and we’ve even seen Cadbury’s Dairy Milk using Shah Rukh Khan to promote local shop owners (we’ve spoken about this earlier, right?)
